Fatal Denver Rollover Accident Closes I-70 | Denver Injury Attorney

May 17th, 2011

According to KDVR, a large stretch of Interstate 70 was closed Monday, May 9th, after a fatal rollover accident just west of Denver. The Interstate was closed in both directions at Bakerville after a pickup truck crashed and rolled over. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and was tragically pronounced dead at the scene of the Denver accident.

Due to their high centers of gravity, pickup trucks, Sport Utility Vehicles, and other large trucks are at an increased risk for deadly rollover accidents. While there are many reasons for rollover accidents, some of the more common causes include:

  • Defective tires or parts
  • Excessive speed
  • Hitting a curb or low-lying object
  • Swerving off the road
  • Driver inattention
  • Failure to adequately negotiate a turn or curve in the road
  • And more

While top heavy pickup trucks and SUVs are involved in a high percentage of Denver rollover accidents, defective tires can also contribute to a rollover accident. For example: in 2000, defective Firestone tires were linked to 271 deaths across the United States.

If you or someone you love is injured in a Denver rollover car accident, it is important to contact a Denver injury attorney immediately. Denver injury lawyer, Dallas Norton, will review your case and help you determine if someone’s negligence contributed to or caused your Denver rollover car accident. Denver’s “Taxis on Patrol” Program: New Eyes & Ears to Help Police | Denver Car Accident Attorney

April 28th, 2011

A recently-initiated public vigilance program using Denver taxi drivers appears to have borne good fruit, according to a 7News story about a fatal hit-and-run DUI accident that happened on January 22, 2011.

The accident, in which a newbie parking valet was struck and killed by a pickup carrying four allegedly-illegal immigrants, was observed by a taxi driver trained under the Denver Police Department’s “Taxis on Patrol” (TOP) program. The program trains taxi drivers to act as first responders to provide law enforcement authorities with useful information about car accidents or suspicious activity while on their routes.

After observing the accident, the helpful driver followed the hit-and-run vehicle as it left the accident scene and relayed license-tag number and other information to police, resulting in the capture of the fugitive suspects, who remain in custody. The driver was alleged to have been driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the fatal accident.

The Denver TOP program has drawn much favorable public notice, and maintains an active dialog with taxi drivers and the public through Facebook. This group hopes to continue to achieve great successes by reporting drunk drivers, car accidents, fires, crimes, and other emergencies throughout the Denver-Aurora area.

Still, DUI accidents continue to happen—luckily, Denver car accident attorney, Dallas Norton, can help. Call today for your free case evaluation. If you have been injured due to another driver’s recklessness or negligence, it is important to review all of your legal options with a qualified and experienced Denver car accident attorney. 6 year old girl dies after horrific Denver pedestrian accident | Denver Personal Injury Attorney

March 31st, 2011

According to Channel 7 News in Denver, a 6 year old girl has died after the injuries she sustained in a Denver pedestrian accident earlier this week. Saskia Cochrane was crossing 17th Avenue when she ran after her dog and was hit by a car. The driver stayed at the scene until police officials arrived and it is uncertain as to whether or not the driver will face charges. The young girl’s family told reporters that they consider the incident to be an accident that could’ve happened to anyone. Yet they urge all Denver area drivers to slow down and watch for small children. In addition, all families are urged to talk to their children about looking twice before crossing any street.

Unfortunately, Denver pedestrian accidents are all too common. Since, the human body is unable to withstand the forces of an accident with a car, truck, or motorcycle; it is the pedestrian who often suffers the most. Injuries from Denver pedestrian accidents include severe head injuries, spinal cord injuries, and even death.

If you or someone you love is injured in a Denver pedestrian accident, it is important to retain the services of an experienced and veteran Denver personal injury attorney immediately. Contact Denver personal injury lawyer, Dallas Norton, for a free review of your case.

Lakewood Pedestrian Injured After Being Hit by Two Cars | Colorado Personal Injury Attorney

March 21st, 2011

According to a Denver Post story, a man sustained “life-threatening injuries” after being hit twice while crossing West Colfax Avenue in Lakewood on Saturday night. The first car that hit the pedestrian sped away. The 45-year-old man, who has yet to be identified, was then hit a second time by a different vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle stopped and was later arrested for “suspicion of vehicular assault.” The pedestrian may have been crossing against a red signal but was in a crosswalk when struck. Police are looking for the car, “a recent-model silver sedan,” that sped away from the accident and urge anyone who has information to call the Lakewood Police department.

According to the Colorado State Patrol (CSP), 42 pedestrians were killed after being hit by automobiles in 2008. The sad fact is that some of these cases were hit-and-run accidents that remain unsolved. If you happen to be the witness of a hit-and-run accident, take a moment to write down any information you can remember from the accident and talk to a local law enforcement representative as soon as possible. Information that may seem insignificant to you may actually be important information.

Baby Monitor Recall | Denver Personal Injury Attorney

February 11th, 2011

The Denver Channel (7 News) has posted an Associate Press article about a massive baby monitor recall. According to the article some two million “Summer Infant video baby monitors were recalled” today after “being linked to the strangulation deaths of two infants.” One of the babies was a 10-month-old girl and the other a 6-month-old boy. Both died in 2010. According to a spokesperson for the Consumer Product Safety Commission, any camera or monitor with an electrical cord should be placed more than three feet away from a babies’ crib. In the two cases mentioned above, the cameras were placed within the reach of the babies.

Counting the deaths associated with the Summer Infant monitors, there have been seven reported deaths due to cord strangulation associated with baby monitors since 2004. This may not seem like a significant number, but nobody wants to lose a baby to an accident. The CPSC urges parents and childcare providers to keep cords out of the reach of babies and small children. The agency has also asked that additional reports of such cases to be brought to their attention.

Soldier from Fort Carson Sentenced for DUI Crash | Colorado Car Accident Attorney

January 30th, 2011

A soldier from Fort Carson was sentenced to 10 years in a military prison for a DUI crash that killed two people near the base last year. The Denver Post reports that Spc. Jordan Peters, a 25-year-old from Florida, was driving with a blood-alcohol level of nearly twice the legal limit “when his Audi veered into the path of a flatbed utility truck.” The accident killed two fellow soldiers who were riding with Peters and injured the driver of the truck, Jimmy Clift from Canon City. Peters was found guilty of two charges of involuntary manslaughter and driving under the influence and faced a maximum 24 years. Peters pleaded guilty to the DUI charges but claims the truck driver caused the accident. At the hearing, Peters expressed remorse for his decision to drive drunk that night and apologized to the victims’ families as well as to his own family.

A car accident involving alcohol can result in serious injury and death. According to the NHTSA, 37,261 people died in motor vehicle crashes in the U.S. In 2008. Over 30% of these crashes involved a driver driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. A blood-alcohol level over the states set legal limits will get you arrested. The consequences of an accident while driving under the influence can be even more severe. As with the case mentioned in the The Denver Post story, injury, death and a life time of guilt and grief may be the end result of DUI.

A car crash can produce some of the most horrific injuries a person can face. DUI raises the percentages of a crash involving injury and death. If you have been in an accident involving someone who was driving under the influence, Colorado car accident attorney Dallas Norton will review your case for free and discuss with you all of your legal options. In some cases you may be able to recover compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, property damage, and pain and suffering. Call (303) 400-4731 today for a free case consultation.

Stapleton Hit and Run Victim Improving – Denver Car Accident Attorney

December 13th, 2010

A Denver woman “who lost her unborn baby to a hit-and-run driver last week” is steadily improving. Laurie Gorham, of Denver, was hit by a dark colored SUV at the intersection of 29th Avenue and Central Park Boulevard in Stapleton last Thursday. Gorham was thrown through the air and had been in critical condition at Denver Health Medical Center until Sunday morning. She has since been upgraded to fair condition, and it has been reported by 9 News that she has been seen smiling and talking with family. Investigators have little but a description of the vehicle to go on at this point and are asking that anyone who has information on the case to contact Denver Police.

According to the Colorado State Patrol (CSP), 42 pedestrians were killed after being hit by automobiles in 2008. Thornton Robbery Suspect Killed in Car Crash – Denver Accident Attorney

November 18th, 2010

The Denver Post has reported that a man who fled the scene of a robbery was killed after his SUV raced off the road into a ditch late Wednesday evening. Two others were involved in the incident. One suspect left the scene of the robbery on foot and has not been found. A woman who was a passenger in the SUV that crashed was transported to Denver Health Medical Center where she remains in critical condition. The attempted robbery took place in Thornton and the ensuing car chase traveled northwest for nearly 17 miles before the suspected robber crashed his vehicle. The names of the victim and his passenger have not been released.

According to an article posted by the FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin, at least one person dies everyday “as a result of a police pursuit.” There are several states that do not have mandatory reporting systems in place to report such fatalities and therefore the article suggests that the number mentioned above should be higher. The article also claims that nearly 42% of those killed in police pursuit accidents are innocent bystanders.

Luckily, no innocent bystanders were killed in the police pursuit that began in Thornton. The sad fact is that innocent people are injured and killed everyday as the result of police pursuits. If you have been injured as the result of such an accident, you need a Denver car accident attorney to assist you with your legal options. Mother of Child Fall Victim Evicted – Denver Personal Injury Attorney

October 1st, 2010

The Colorado Springs Gazette has released a story about a single mother who was evicted from her apartment “five weeks after her 15-month-old son slipped through the railings of an indoor stairwell” at the apartment complex and died. The single mother, Adrianna Spedilari, was ordered to leave her apartment on the 8th of September after failing to pay back rent and late fees on the 1st. Spedilari was able to pay all rent owed plus late fees on the 17th but was still required to move out of her unit by the end of the month.

Spedilari and the father of her child, Christopher R. Perez, are represented by Denver attorney Sommer Luther. On Monday, Luther filed a motion on their behalf “requesting that the eviction action be dismissed and replaced with a lawsuit against the apartment owner.” The motion states that their lawsuit will claim that the railing spaces were too wide,“creating a hazard for small children” and that apartment owner failed both to replace the railings and to warn tenants of the danger the railing posed.

The apartment complex is part of Cedar Crest Properties, owned by Terry Ragan. The Gazette, it turns, ran a series in 2003 on numerous problems found in Ragan owned properties throughout Colorado Springs. Ragan was unavailable for questioning at the time of this story.

September 24th, 2010

A sophomore from CSU, Melissa Gallaher, “remains in critical condition at the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland after being struck Saturday night by a Honda Civic near the intersection of Mulberry and Peterson streets.” According to The Coloradoan, the driver of the Civic, Ryan Marsini, has not been charged, and it is not believed that he was speeding or driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The cause of the accident remains under investigation. Gallaher’s aunt said she was not upset with anyone and is praying for everyone involved.

The website Walking Info claims that there were “69,000 reported pedestrian injuries in 2008, nearly one every 8 minutes.” Nearly 12 pedestrians died every day in accidents involving motor vehicles that same year, adding up to a loss of 4,378 lives. The number of deaths has decreased over the course of the last decade. In 1998, the number of pedestrians killed in accidents involving motor vehicles was well over 5,000.
