Gubernatorial candidate Tom Tancredo was involved in a motorcycle accident on Sunday. According to 7News, Tancredo was riding his Harley-Davidson north on Broadway when a woman pulled in front of him, cutting him off. The vehicles front bumper struck the back of the motorcycle causing the motorcycle to crash. Tancredo suffered only minor scrapes and bruises in the accident despite not wearing a helmet.
Motorcycle rider fatalities have been on the rise for many years. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that 4,810 motorcyclists died in 2006. According to the Colorado Department of Transportation 90 riders and passengers were killed in motorcycle crashes in Colorado in 2007, the highest ever recorded (that averages almost 8 deaths every month).
